I consider that there is no one on this planet, connected to Internet, that hasn’t, once in a lifetime listen to a Madonna song. She was the favorite singer of my mother, is one of my favorites and, taking into account the huge expansions of the genres and singers it’s almost a miracle to resist so long as the unofficial queen of music.
Definitely, any reader would by now be very confused asking, is it a blog for web designers or for Madonna fans? Yep, it is web design related, but a wise designer must learn some useful tips from her. If there is someone not quite passionate about Madonna and her songs then it’s recommended to notice how powerful the brand is and how many fans are simply in love with her.By the way, are you loving her songs, are you a fan of Madonna? Keeping merely updated is the primordial condition to be successful
Madonna has many years of experience, she was famous in the pre-computers era and she is also well known in the age where music is a matter of tech creation. The changes across time were many and substantial, but she resisted very well. It isn’t about good luck or chance, it’s all about work, intelligence and flexibility. Madonna can’t survive without flexibility; she adapted to the trends but kept in her songs the personal touch, the listeners being able to instantly recognize her.
A web designer must embrace the same approach, only by keeping merely updated he will resist in the community. There should be a clear distinction between flexibility and adapting to the novelties and trends and only working to satisfy the trends patterns. A designer must keep his personal view, but the works created shouldn’t be outdated, else the people won’t consider him and his works. Marketing is everything, but don’t neglect the quality
Madonna is a great voice, but she is mostly an example about the impressive force of branding and marketing. The same idea is mandatory in web design, the quality should never be neglected but unfortunately, it’s not enough. No matter how skilled you are or how many clients are interested in your services always try to create a positive image about yourself.
There are many stunning portfolios of talented designers that aren’t hired and some designers, not so greatly skilled (but not amateurs) have a lot of clients. Marketing makes the difference, as soon as your portfolio isn’t promoted clearly, it won’t overcome the status of a static website.
Briefly, the idea isn’t complicated: the quality remains the most important but marketing is capital.
Get out of your comfort zone
It’s truly difficult to accept new and new provocations, the human brain is created to adapt to a specific environment and hardly take new provocations. Getting out of your comfort zone is a will matter and few are gifted with a strong one.
Madonna is one of these gifted persons; she made many sacrifices for her carrier. Having lots of tours all around the world, infinite photo sessions, many conferences, etc. these are only some aspects that reveal a sad fact: she didn’t/doesn’t have free time. What you think? would you accept to sacrifice so much just to be a superstar designer or prefer to stay comfortable in front of your TV and work enough to have a decent life?
As always, the solution is in between. Clearly, you should have a strong passion for in order to do so many compromises as Madonna, but to gain a better social position is mandatory to abandon your comfort zone sometimes.
Practice as much as she is doing gym training
The talent by itself will never be enough, all the great singers impress also with another facts: the never-ending training sessions. Madonna is fabulous because she practices a lot with her voice,but she has an impressive energy in her shows, she is able to sing and dance for hours and it is the result of a lot of training sessions.
Web designers must assume the same idea, a beautiful layout can’t be just a happy haphazard it’s the outcome of talent, skills and experience. The first two items are combinations of born capabilities and practice, but the experience is gained as long as you effectively work. It’s not the most distractive activity but practice is mandatory, the more you work, the more chances of getting many clients are.
Try to offer timeless products
People are invaded with opportunities and solutions that they don’t have the physical time to select the best ones; usually a superficial judgmentis applied. In spite of that, the offer that is always the best is creating a positive image and people will become more interested in it. Therefore, providing only the best products isn’t a dead solution, it’s only the healthy and stable one. Fortunately, there is a filter, better than the opinion of the specialists: the time, it’s the entity that helps the quality providers to resist and ignore the profiteers. Don’t be afraid; create good works that are able to pass the test of time!
Create a community around you
The fans of Madonna are numerous and the shows are always overcrowded. It’s the voice of Madonna and the quality of her performances as the main reasons,but there is still another secret ingredient that aid to this phenomenal success: she attempted to create a community around her (and she formed almost a religion!!!).
In the same manner, a web designer must create a group of people that are interested in his services and works. It seems difficult but, nowadays, social media made it simple and handy by just joining Facebook and Twitter to get more friends and followers.
Personally, I prefer listening to music when creating layouts and many times the music of Madonna gives me special powers and inspiration, please try it, maybe it will work also for you.
