The web world in which we live today is highly unstable as it keeps changing every millisecond. Similarly, our beloved web development industry is also evolving at a considerable speed and the frame of growth is lightening fast. None of us can feel the minute developments that the web design and development industry is going through but the future is crystal clear. Being an entrepreneur, understanding these changes becomes even more important for the sake of a successful business. Through this article, I would like to mention some major changes that I feel are imminent in the field of Web Development and Information Technology. Here it goes:
Web Developers will need to upgrade their basic programming knowledge
A web developer who has deep knowledge and specializes in any one coding language definitely has an edge over a person who has limited knowledge of multiple coding languages. In near future, a web developer will have to strive continuously for upgrading his programming knowledge due to the dynamic nature of the web development industry. For instance, a developer who had the knowledge of CSS/HTML had to upgrade his knowledge in terms of API so that he can also specialize in websites backed with WordPress technology. What I mean to say is that web design and development field is changing shape continuously, even as we breathe the industry is shrinking, which is why I advise quality over quantity with constant improvement.
Wider Markets and Increased Complexity
Today we have E-book readers to read as many books as you can, tablets to read Newspapers online, Smart Phones that can pull-off any application within seconds to your amusement. With technical markets getting wide, anyone can pull-off a phone to check his Facebook status. However, one cannot ignore the increasing complexity in the market too as with increasing technologies and devices; the need for personnel to manage the same will also rise. As mentioned previously, increasing complexity will take a toll on the mental well-being of a web developer but a much more promising effort from the person will create a niche for him in the industry. Well, the good thing for the entrepreneurs is that widening of the market will result in more business, more clients and increasing opportunities at a global level.
Services of PSD to XHTML Conversion
As a professional Web Consultant, I am already receiving bulk requests for conversion services and I still feel that there is lot more to come. I feel the paradigm will slowly shift from regular conversion services to regular WordPress or development. What I mean to say is that the scope for open source development will be much more in the future.
Coming to Terms with Web Standards
Many coders out there still compromise with web standards for the sake of functionality without caring for the long-term setbacks. What amuses me is the fact that these are the same people cursing technology standards later on, which should have been abided-by long time back! With modern products entering markets every now n’ then, web standards are likely to become much more stringent in a bid to improve internet quality. With firms today rolling out support in the form of quick-fix software for problematic technologies, I believe future will see increasing demand for coders who actually follow web standard compliant strategies.
Web Browsers like Internet Explorer will actually be preferred
Humor me as I just said that! Well, courtesy several security issues that popped-up recently internet users now have realized the value of a secured browser finally. Thanks to all the hype surrounding Internet Explorer 10 and the benefits Microsoft has been singing around, I somehow feel that IE10 will actually be cool. I dedicated a place for a browser like IE in my article not due to sarcasm or irony, but due to the long legacy that the web browser shares with internet, thereby earning a special mention. Another trend that many of us have missed is that over the years, web browsers are getting minimal in nature, which means unnecessary functions and user interfaces are being eliminated. Future browsers will see increasing stress on common UIs like search, back button and the address bar.
Going through recent studies made me believe that experts are now using heat map technology to identify the most viewed and accessed areas of a web browser. The secret is making the interface as simple as possible as even the experts know that the future relies a lot on technology, which will be worth using.
End of the Road for Flash?
End of the road for Adobe Flash in the future? Probably not, Despite of Behemoths like Apple against it, I feel Flash has still a long road to travel. To back my statement with figures, it is a good to know thing that nearly 85 percent of websites that we have today use Flash player. Flash has already come a long way to be neglected so soon and it was actually Flash that ignited a multimedia revolution on the internet and also on smart handhelds. From managing cross browser compatibility issues, to handling issues of fonts, videos, animations and many more, Flash has always emerged out to be a clear winner. Flash will always be there, until something big happens!
‘Respect’ is something that you have to earn through hardwork and with increasing complexity of the market, I feel clients will soon start respecting the ample attention to details that we as a web design professionals deploy in their projects. The future of web design and development will remain as bright as it already is.Tags: development, IT, web
