When I design a website one of the common things that the client doesn’t have images to help make the design come together faster. I can say about %50 of the time you will catch me looking for images that fit the project I’m working on. I use Shutterstock, istock, and pixmac.
I have put together a list of the 11 Awesome stock image websites. Yes it does cost to download images, but if you think about how much time it would take to ask the client to send you images that you many have to retouch and clean yourself.

Also http://www.cgtextures.com is a site worth watching. Especially for images taken from a top-view.

i visit everystockphoto.com on a regular basis to try and find royalty free images. i gotta agree that it can be quite _useless_ sometimes!
sxc.hu is okay, and thanks to this blog, i won a giveaway account in depositphotos.com – it’s a boon!
then there’s morguefile.com for free photos
