10 Online Tools to Check Website Performance
  • SumoMe

Web surfers are extremely picky people. They want access to the right information, and they want it fast. With that in mind, web masters must pay careful attention the overall performance of the website and its load time. This is not only a critical issue for users but it also has enormous significance when it comes to SEO. Search engines do not rank sites highly that take a long time to load up. A common example of this is graphic intensive websites. Granted that they look cool, but if not properly moderated and optimized, they can affect page load time.

Today, I will highlight ten great tools that website owners can use to analyze their site performance so that they are always aware of how well their website is functioning.

Which Loads Faster

An extremely handy tool to have, Which Loads Faster enables website owners to compare their page load time in different search engines. You can use this online tool to easily determine whether your website loads faster in Bing or Google. It also allows you to have the flexibility to compare the page load time of two different websites together. This is great for competitor analysis.

Ping Domain Tester

Ping domain tester is another good one. It tests the time it takes for a control packet to arrive from a remote host. In other words it is also testing the speed of the website and checking for packet loss. High packet loss is indicative of a poor connection which would affect website performance.

Zoompf is a free online website performance scan. Users can type in the web URL of the page they want to get statistics of. This tool will analyze and parse that HTML page and check it for over 300 issues. Once the test is concluded, it will give you an online report within seconds. There is a paid version available for this tool as well that has more features and benefits.

Load Impact

load impact

There are two good things about Load Impact. First, it’s free. Second, it provides an enormous amount of data on a website’s ability to handle traffic. The user interface is highly interactive. It can graph user load time and requests per second consecutively to give users an idea about website durability and how fast it can handle web page requests.

Show Slow

The name may sound catchy and in truth, the tool does live up to its name. Show Slow is a web based online tool that allows you to add URLs that need to be monitored for slow load time. It gathers this information from 3 popular testing tools namely dynaTrace, Page Speed and YSlow and provides public metric reports.

Pingdom Tools

Pingdom is no doubt my favorite. It provides you with several statistics such as breakdown of how long each object on a web page takes to load and browser caching analysis. A few other features include load time, page size and requests.

web page test

As you can probably now see, there is no shortage of tools when it comes to website performance. WebPageTest is another one that tests a website in rendering speed in Chrome, Internet Explorer and Firefox. Users also have the flexibility to conduct the test from different location so that they can better determine website load time. You can also select your internet speed connection, i.e. T1, DSL or Dial Up.

OctaGate Site Timer

The name of this tool might give users the impression that this tool is complex but in point of fact, it is one of the most easy to use and straight forward one around. And best of it, the data it displays is extremely easy to understand. Simply enter a URL, run the test and it will display a bar graph that outlines the results for all the attributes it checks for in its test from page load times to download start times. It pinpoints slow loading pages so users can immediately delete or optimize them.

We conclude our list with Site-Perf, another website testing tool. While it is no different than other tools in terms of functionality, it does have added feature that it can even test web pages that require HTTP authentication. Users simply have to enter the login information beforehand and the tool will do the rest. It’s a very handy online web performance tool indeed.

These are a few valuable and free online website performance tools. The key thing to take from this post is that page load time is a very important element that can determine website ranking and traffic. People don’t want to wait more than a few seconds for a page to load up. Search Engines likes Google have the same perception. So it’s an absolute must that website owners ensure that their websites load up quickly on all major web platforms with no issues whatsoever.
